a day has many words and many colours in it

'Dance the orange.'

'For those colors which you wish to be beautiful, always first prepare a pure white ground.'

Victoria Finlay writes at the end of her book on Colour :

...And I felt glad that I had made my paintbox journeys when I could still explore worlds of approximation and poetry, before the colours began to loose their words.

Rock Solid exhibition

Another jewellery exhibition on in Melbourne at the moment is Rock Solid at Pieces of Eight gallery.
I saw it last Friday and thought that it was great. Very interesting and inspiring use of materials.
Another thing that I liked about this show is the video the gallery produced with an interview with the curator, Meredith Turnbull, who I found to be eloquent and informed, this also made me want to see the show.

Rock Solid - Exhibition from George Katsalidis on Vimeo.

The other two videos produced by the gallery, both for Dougal Haslem's show The Turtle and the Merman are also great.
One is an animation by Maya Toone, the other an interview with Dougal. An interesting approach to promoting jewellery.

Lucky Charm. Making Good Fortune Happen

Lucky Charm. Making Good Fortune Happen is an online auction fundraiser of contemporary jewellery donated by individual makers with proceeds going directly to the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Rescue Fund.
This event has been instigated and organized by Natalia Milosz-Piekarska.
The site for the auction states that:

In light of the recent bout of devastating natural disasters that have taken place around the world, in particular, Australia, New Zealand and Japan, it became apparent that humanitarian charities such as the Red Cross have become increasingly stretched for funds and resources which allow them to respond quickly and effectively in critical times.

The Lucky Charm fundraiser, will see over 40 amazing works of contemporary jewellery auctioned off online as a means to show support and help raise much needed funds for the Red Cross - Australia.

You can make bids on the work until April 21, 11pm 2011

Some of the donated works are by jewellers such as Anna Davern, Julia deVille, Elizabeth Kennedy, Bin Dixon-Ward, Vicki Mason among many others.
I have donated a pair of earrings:

sterling silver set with 2 x yellow sapphires

music and images

Ólafur Arnalds - Ljósið (Official Music Video) from Erased Tapes on Vimeo.

I saw this last week on anne louise likes blog
it took my breath away
I listen to music whenever I work.
When I am working on something that is important to me, the music that I listen to is equally as important as the materials that I use to create with.
I am amazed by the power of music, how it affects space and people.
This tangible, intangible thing.

the leaf that wanted to be a love heart

...The pace of a walk will determine the number and variety of things to be encountered, from the broad outlines of a mountain range to a tit's nest among the lichen, and the quality of attention that will be brought to bear upon them.

...Everything we meet is equally important or unimportant.
